Utilitarian Joy: '16 Mini Cooper S

After 5 years of sharing a daily driver, my wife and I finally decided it would be really nice to have a second drivable car when we (gasp) want to be in two different places at the same time.
I had been eyeing Minis for a while, considering a possible experiment with Turo, and eventually I ran out of reasons not to try one.
So far, it has surpassed my expectations in every way. The idea is to just drive it and also catch up on deferred maintenance. Not modifying this; that’s silly.
But yes, that’s a DS1 wheel from a 95 M3. Maybe.

It’s probably a pretty different car, but 15 years ago I had a 2005 R53. That car had no business being as fun as it was.

I’ve heard the R53 is even more go-kart-like than these later versions, but it’s still weirdly capable and you just can’t not smile driving it. They are just rebadged BMWs at this point so it all feels very familiar, just less serious
