This Motocompo just found itself back together and on the road again this month after 10 years of stalled project purgatory... aka DisAssembly. Assembly helped me get back on track and get it functional again!
The bike was donated by a friend to our 10th grade Physics class in 1998 or 1999. It was old and beat up and none of us knew what it was, so of course we stunted it to oblivion and "customized" it with boomer flames and fake whitewalls. It even sported a rocket launcher for a while to enable some on-campus "experiments for science." Somehow I was allowed to ride it in the San Diego Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade one year. It was thoroughly trashed when I rescued it from another friend's back yard in 2005, after which it was wheelied and crashed many more times (by adults now instead of kids, so the crashes were more forceful).
In 2016 I stripped it down to a bare frame and started the process of undestroying it. I sourced many good used parts from Yahoo Japan auctions, including the engine / drive unit, wheels, and the major plastics. The frame was bent and broken in lots of different ways, so that was fun getting it back in shape and repainted. I'll go into that in a later post.
I still need to finish restoring some of the plastic body pieces I didn't replace, and add a battery back in. But for now it's up and running, smoking and zipping down the streets again.
More to come; it's not fully finished as is probably obvious.

This little guy is super cool. Amazing backstory, too; can’t say I would’ve guessed 10th grade physics class 😄 Glad it’s back on the road!
